I was born in 1932 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. My earliest encounter with art was in Miss Bell’s 4th grade class. My teacher informed me many times that my landscapes paintings were unique and outstanding, especially my use of bold color combinations. I enjoyed this attention which fostered motivation and a sense of self worth.
In high school, I enrolled in as many art classes as my schedule would allow. At sixteen, I took 2nd place in the National Scholastic Art Contest. This achievement was exciting and led to being awarded the Sigma Eta Fine Arts Award for being the Outstanding Art Student in my graduating class.
After graduation, I joined the U.S. Air Force. Upon discharge I was awarded a basketball scholarship to attend Texas Southern University, where I majored in Economics and Business Administration.
I spent the majority of my working life in government service, but always in the back of my mind was the desire to return to painting. After retirement, I decided to rekindle this love for creating art that I had as a young man. Trying my hand at watercolors was not very successful, however this was the spark that proved the stimulus to continue. From watercolor, I moved to gouache, oils, and acrylics.
I have exhibited at many locations throughout the Las Vegas area including: Las Vegas Art Museum, Reed Whipple Community Center, McCarran Airport, Clark County community College, Las Vegas State Building, West Las Vegas Library, Left Of Center Art Gallery, and at Dixie College in St. George, Utah.
BEAUTIFUL! I love the bright colors…you can feel the happiness come through your paintings. I work with your grandaughter Christina and I can certainly say that the trickle down effect has continued through to her…she is a very talented young lady too! God Bless you on your journey!
Dad. Your artwork is so amazing, as are you. Some of these paintings I have never even seen and reflect a side and depth to you that most people would never have a chance to encounter. WOW!
